Proctor Overview

Being a Proctor in Harvey Mudd College’s Machine Shop is not a desk job. It is an opportunity to learn and reinforce your machining experience through teaching others. You have the opportunity to see a tremendous number of different processes to accomplish the same thing. Think of this as a chance to reinforce and fundamentalize the skills you learned in E4.

At the same time, you are still responsible for the students working in the Machine Shop. You were hired to keep students safe and keep the work environment ordered and clean. The students you will be dealing with range from the naïve, next generation of E4 students to the forgetful, old Clinic students and everything in between.

You are among the most experienced students at HMC, and we have confidence that you will perform your duties with enthusiasm and dedication. If you ever have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We want to keep the Machine Shop a safe, efficient, and educational environment — but we need your help to do so.

If you are interested in applying to be a Machine Shop Proctor, look for an email from a member of the machine shop management team towards the end of each semester!
